Ten point pitch card game
They may play any card they wish, though some play that they must lead a trump first. Play proceeds clockwise around the table.
There are three standard variations for following to a trick. A playgroup should choose one before the start of the game. The firsts option is all following players must follow suit or trump, if not able to do either they may play any card to the trick. The second option states that the following players must follow suit. If they cannot, they may play any card they wish to the trick, including trumps.
The third option states that the following players must follow suit but may also play trumps. If they cannot follow suit, they may play any card they wish, including trumps.
Regardless of the playstyle chosen the trick is won by the highest trump played. If not applicable, the trick is won by the highest card of the suit led. The winner of the trick collects it and leads to the next trick. If they were successful, they score the number of points earned during the round this may be more than they bid. If they were not successful, then the number bid is subtracted from their score. It is possible to have a negative score.
If the bid is shoot the moon the bidding team advances their score to 52 if their score was above zero or to zero if their score was below zero. Failure to score all ten points constitutes loss of game. The point cards: each of the following is worth one point — ace, jack, off-jack, joker, joker, ten, and two. The three is worth three points. The two goes to the person who plays it. It cannot be taken away by a higher card. Five-Handed Game played as above with ten cards dealt to each player.
The remaining four cards are kept as a blind. These all score the team who wins them in a trick 1 point each. Once all players have received their hands the round of bidding can begin. Each player only gets one chance to bid. Players bid on how many of the above points they must win in a round. The bidding ends once the dealer bids or passes, or a bid of shoot for the moon is made. The winner is the highest bidder and they become the pitcher. After the bid is completed, the pitcher chooses the trump suit.
Each player then receives a number of cards to refill their hand back to 6 cards each. If both members of a team run out of trump cards, the remaining points are won by the opposing team. If the bid winning team makes their bid or goes above their bid they collect that many points.
The opposing team can still recieve points even though they did not bid. If the bid winning team loses their bid, their proposed bid is subtracted from their score. If a team "shoots the moon," or bids 10 and makes the bid, they automatically win the game. Otherwise, players go until one team gets more than 54 points.
