Windows 7 starter for small notebook pcs sp1

Pretty standard setup with office programme, Firefox, Thunderbird. SP1 has tried to install several times and always returns an error message that it is unable to complete, without telling me what the issue is!!! I have disabled security programmes and any other programme that starts automatically. Been to the troubleshooting centre and tried to download the KB mb.

After trying 4 times, the download stops at of mb. Won't even download using IE8. Strikes me that the SP1 package should explain where the problem is.
